Q&A: What is the probability they choose two brown puppies?

Question by Ramona: What is the probability they choose two brown puppies?
A kennel has 3 black puppies and 4 brown puppies. If someone is randomly choosing puppies, what is the probability they choose two brown puppies?

The first pick is a 4/7 chance of picking a brown one. If they’ve picked a brown one first, the next pick is a 3/6 or 1/2 chance of picking another brown one. For both to occur, the probabilities multiply:

(4/7) * (1/2) = 4/14 which reduces to a 2/7 or 0.286 (rounded) chance of picking two brown ones
